Soviet Realism: Lenin at Smolny OOC Large
Original oil on canvas replica of the masterwork - Lenin in Smolny in 1917 - by Brodsky. Completed under contract for Affairs of the Arts USSR Dimensions: 5 feet 6 inches wide x 4 feet high. The painting, Lenin in Smolny by Isaak Brodsky (1883-1939), became an iconic artwork symbolizing the early years of Soviet Realism. The painting was done after Lenin's death and was intended to canonize the image of the leader of the world proletariat. This work is part of a collection believed to be from the Russian Embassy in Mexico, removed sometime in the late 1940s and later discovered in California when the consignor paid in excess of $150,000 for the set.
